Agenda

1.  Prepared Talks

"Gears and Rings as Mathematica Art or Educational Display", by Jess Porter

Abstract.  These precision rings and gears are a light alloy metal and are
used in fast spinning computer hard drives.  This talk solicits ideas from
the group regarding a possible project.  


"Using Mathematica to Surf the Waves", by Dave Vasholz

Abstract.  This talk presents an application of Mathematica to water waves.


"Recent Technical Questions about Mathematica", by Bruce Colletti

Abstract.  A summary of recent discussions with Wolfram Technical Support (a
first class team) about plotting a curve on a surface.  Also a brief
discussion about Compile and its use in plotting a fractal.


NEW TALK:  "An Unbelievable Feat Accomplished", by Dan Martinez

Abstract.  Dan will show how control of a dynamic timeline plot can be
effected without the use of either Manipulate or DynamicModule, but with all
of the functionality that they can provide.  


2.  Mathematica Gems and Discoveries

- Sharing of Mathematica programming oddities
- Applications of Mathematica to some areas of science
- Something recently read and worth sharing


3.  Mathematica Questions, Possible Approaches and Discussion

Enterprise Building at south corner of Westpark Drive and Greensboro Drive):


>From the Beltway, go northwest on Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) and proceed past
Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road). Turn right onto Westpark Drive (Gosnell Road
in the other direction). Turn right at the next light onto Greensboro Drive
and then right into the parking lot. Visitor's Parking is adjacent to
Westpark Drive. 

A SIG representative will meet you in the lobby. 

Please arrive no later than 6:50AM if you wish to join us for a dutch-treat
breakfast, and no later than 7:20AM to attend the meeting only. The desk
officer will ask for a driver's license before issuing a visitor's badge.
