What, exactly, is the purpose of the "bootstrap" step that creates the .mx file (which allegedly takes hours)? In particular, does this irreversibley alter the originally installed Mathematica system files? Or alter them in any way? What is the purpose of the first step in the QuickStart.nb? That is: Put[ToFileName[{$HomeDirectory}, ".DsUAutoloadPreventionStub"]]; (Maybe it's just me, but I find the documentation about installing DesignerUnits unusually confusing when compared to nearly every other add-pn package I've ever used.) > > A fresh release for Mathematica 8 is live. > It works across versions 6 to 8 and > package upgrade is recommended for all. > > http://DesignerUnits.com/news > http://DesignerUnits.com/contact > > -- Murray Eisenberg Internet: murray at math.umass.edu Mathematics & Statistics Dept.
