I would like to add this...it's interesting if you look at the Classroom Assistant on the Typesetting page,under the superscript folder, if you put the mouse over each icon it also shows the equivalent keyboard entry...except for the one we are interested in here, the matching double brackets....unfortunately, I have no idea why this is...
