Hello Peter,
consider g=Plot[x,{x,0,1}]. What you get from Format/Show Expression is
not the same as g. g contains the mathematica commands to create the
graphics. It does print as "-Graphics-", but you can look at g by e.g.
FullExpression[g]. Show Expression on the other hand gives you
postscript code that has been created from the expression in g that fits
your output dives, here the screen.
As you are not spefifying your problem, that is all I can say.
