I have also encountered this problem with an autogenerated package - and
yes, everything looked fine until someone tried it under Linux.
The splitting of long lines seems to be at the heart of the problem.
There used to be another strange problem with autogenerated packages, in
that if you had a lot of math-formatting you sometimes had to save the
contents TWICE back-to-back to avoid getting a corrupt .m file.
Depending on the version of Mathematica is use, this could also be present.
